Heads Above the Parapet: How can we improve Race Equality at the Bar?

On 7 February, our Chair, Baroness Blackstone, is hosting a race equality seminar from 6.30pm to 8pm, at Holborn Bars, London EC1N 2NQ.

The seminar is aimed at members of the Bar, other legal practitioners, educators, race equality organisations and diversity experts. The discussions at the seminar will inform an action plan and report which we hope will play a significant role in promoting diversity at the Bar.

We have high profile speakers including Sara Ibrahim from 3 Hare Court, a prominent advocate on race equality issues who is currently serving on the C Panel of Counsel for the Commission for Equality and Human Rights, and Dr Leslie Thomas QC from Garden Court Chambers.

Following the speakers' sessions, there will be a series of facilitated workshops exploring: barriers to entry and progression, improving culture, how regulation can make a positive impact, and opportunities for collaborative working with stakeholders.

Speakers will then be invited to sit on a panel to discuss feedback from the workshop groups and respond to any questions. The event will conclude with a networking reception where drinks and light refreshments will be available. The event will be streamed live on our Facebook page to widen participation and access. Space is limited; to book a place please email contactus@barstandardsboard.org.uk by 23 January.
