Offence details:

Rajesh Babajee, an unregistered barrister, who was also admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in 2006, engaged in conduct, whether in pursuit of his profession or otherwise, which was dishonest or otherwise discreditable to a barrister; and likely to diminish public confidence in the legal profession or otherwise bring the legal profession into disrepute, in that, between November and December 2009, he dishonestly misappropriated client monies in respect of a conveyancing transaction (sale of 122 C Street). In respect of this conduct, Mr Babajee was, on 20 April 2016, struck off the Roll of Solicitors following a hearing at the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal at which time a number of charges were found proved against Mr Babajee including that he dishonestly misappropriated client funds, totalling ?45,000, relating to a conveyancing transaction in 2009.

Rajesh Babajee, an unregistered barrister, failed to provide promptly information requested of him by the Bar Standards Board for the purposes of its regulatory function, in that, he failed to respond to a letter sent to him on 9 June 2016 and email sent to him on 27 June 2016.

Sanction:
Disbarred. Sentence came into effect on 3 April 2017.
