View recordGuy Sims, a barrister, behaved in a way which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession, in that, in 2017 and 2019, he arranged and/ or facilitated the commission of a sexual offence with a child, including:
i. In 2017, he set up one or more profiles on a teenage dating site purporting to be a 16-year-old boy;
ii. In September 2017, he exchanged sexually explicit messages with persons “X” and “Y” whom he believed to be 13 years of age;
iii. On 27 September 2017, he travelled with a condom and alcohol to meet X for the purposes of arranging or facilitating sex with X;
iv. On 27 September 2017, he arranged to meet Y in a wood, carrying him with a camouflage net, for the purposes of arranging or facilitating sex with Y;
v. In September and October 2019, he began exchanges with another person, Z, who he believed to be a thirteen-year-old girl and made arrangements to meet Z for the purposes of sexual activity.
Guy Sims, a barrister, behaved in a way which could reasonably be seen by the public to undermine his honesty and integrity in that, in that, in 2017 and 2019, he arranged and/ or facilitated the commission of a sexual offence with a child, including:
i. In 2017, he set up one or more profiles on a teenage dating site purporting to be a 16-year-old boy;
ii. ii. In September 2017, he exchanged sexually explicit messages with persons X and Y whom he believed to be 13 years of age;
iii. On 27 September 2017, he travelled with a condom and alcohol to meet X for the purposes of arranging or facilitating sex with X;
iv. On 27 September 2017, he arranged to meet Y in a wood, carrying him with a camouflage net, for the purposes of arranging or facilitating sex with Y;
v. In September and October 2019, he began exchanges with another person, “Z”, who he believed to be a thirteen-year-old girl and made arrangements to meet Z for the purposes of sexual activity.
As a consequence of the above conduct, on 28 July 2021, Mr Sims was convicted of three counts of arranging and/or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence, contrary to s14(1) of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, for which, on 6 October 2021, he was sentenced to three and half years in prison.
