Patricia Robertson QC appointed as new BSB Vice-Chair from January 2013

The Bar Standards Board (BSB), the regulatory body for barristers in England and Wales, today announces the appointment of Patricia Robertson QC as the new Vice Chair of the BSB. She will take up the position on 1 January 2013.

Patricia is a practising barrister at Fountain Court Chambers. She has a broad commercial and civil practice - focusing in particular on banking and financial services litigation, professional negligence, regulation of financial and legal services and mediation. She was a member of the Alternative Business Structures (ABS) working group of the BSB and is currently a member of the Board and Chair of the BSB's Standards Committee, which is tasked with modernising the Code and preparing to regulate new business structures. Patricia is also involved in equality and diversity issues, acting as one of her chambers' two equality officers.

Commenting on Patricia's appointment Baroness Ruth Deech, Chair of the BSB, said:

"I am delighted that Patricia will be our new Vice Chair from 2013, having been chosen from an exceptionally strong field of candidates. I look forward to working closely with her in leading the BSB as a number of significant developments are implemented, in particular our new Handbook and Entity Regulation, to which she has already made an outstanding contribution.. Her knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to regulate training and practice in the public interest and work with the Legal Services Board in all aspects of what we do.

I would very much like to thank Sir Geoffrey Nice QC for his assistance and dedication to the post of Vice Chair, from which he will step down at the end of this year. Sir Geoffrey has been an invaluable support to me and all members at the Bar Standards Board, as well as to the staff, and has made a significant contribution throughout his tenure. We are very grateful for his efforts."

Patricia Robertson QC said: "I am delighted to accept the position of Vice Chair of the Bar Standards Board. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the Board to date and look forward to taking on the formal leadership role of Vice Chair."
