FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 3 FEBRUARY 2025
The Bar Standards Board (BSB) has today published its third Annual Report to the Board on Bar Training covering the period from December 2023 to November 2024 along with a further report containing statistics on enrolment, results, and student progression overall.
The Annual Bar Training Report offers insight into how standards in Bar training during both the vocational and pupillage components have continued to be set, met, and assured. This includes a description of the work that the Bar Standards Board does to ensure that high standards are maintained, that assessment standards are rigorous and to promote accessibility and equality of opportunity in Bar training.
The Report also shows that differential outcomes for some students from minority backgrounds persist, most notably for black students, and that a number of barriers in recruitment to pupillage also remain. We are working on a number of initiatives and projects, including through a recent consultation on our Equality Rules, to address these issues.
The 2024 Report on Statistics on enrolment, results, and student progression overall details trends in vocational training to become a barrister, and student progression on to the professional stage of training in England and Wales. It covers the period from 2011/12 to 2023/24.
We hope that these reports will be useful to all those who have an interest in training for the Bar. The full reports are available on our website.
