The Bar Standards Board is following current events closely and understands that they may be of concern to many barristers. Threats against legal professionals for doing their job have no place in our society.

Barristers should be able to carry out their work safely, in order to provide a competent service to clients and contribute to the effective functioning of the justice system.

Whilst barristers’ primary duties are to the Court and their clients, the BSB recognises that the current situation is creating challenges and apprehension.

If a barrister feels at risk, we recommend that you contact your local police and alert your chambers. You may find the advice and support provided by the Bar Council to be helpful and you can also contact LawCare for free and confidential emotional support.
