Barrister Henry Hendron was ordered to be disbarred by an independent disciplinary tribunal which concluded on 3 July 2024 following findings of professional misconduct in relation to charges brought by the Bar Standards Board (BSB). The Tribunal also ordered that Mr Hendron should not be issued with a practising certificate pending any appeal.
Mr Hendron was convicted on 17 March 2023 of possessing a controlled Class A drug and intentionally encouraging/assisting clients whom he was representing in criminal proceedings to commit a criminal offence by supplying him with Class A and Class C drugs. The Tribunal found that Mr Hendron had behaved in a way which was likely to diminish the trust and confidence which the public places in him or in the profession, and which could reasonably be seen by the public to undermine his integrity and independence. Mr Hendron also had a previous criminal and disciplinary record, including for drug related offences, which were taken into account in making the order to disbar.
Commenting on the order, a BSB spokesperson said: “Possessing and encouraging the supply of Class A drugs is clearly a very serious matter. The conduct for which Mr Hendron was convicted, including being involved in his client’s criminal activity, is clearly entirely unacceptable behaviour for a barrister and the Tribunal’s decision to disbar him reflects this.”
